Arrabida
The
Arrabida’s Natural Park stretches though an area of 10.800 hectares, covering the Setubal,
Palmela and Sesimbra counties.
The originality of the landscape is due not only to the natural characteristics but also to the remote humanization, that developed in harmony with the natural environment. The Arrabida’s chain includes several other mountains, like Serra de S. Luís, Gaiteiros, S. Francisco e Louro, reaching its peak at
Serra da Arrábida, where it finally contacts with the ocean.
Created by the need to preserve the natural, historic and economical values, the Arrabida’s Natural Park presents itself as a region where the natural environment and the traditional activities have a big impact in the surrounding society. Examples are the manufacture of the famous cheese "Queijo de Azeitão" and several famous table wines. Equally the strong historical values like the Convent of Arrabida, include the human element in the environment, valuing a balanced and conscious contact between Man and nature.
